Vinegar Hill Townhouse

The 1840s structure, originally a liquor store, presented the challenge of working within a landmarked building with extremely compact floor plates while honoring its historic exterior character and cobblestoned neighborhood context.

An open-riser wood and steel staircase running through the center of the home unifies the compact floor plates and, combined with an open loft-like layout, creates the impression of a larger interior. Contemporary furnishings were layered with natural finishes and craftsman details throughout. The exterior was restored to replicate the original storefront. The property also includes a restored two-story carriage house functioning as a two-bedroom guest apartment with an upper roof deck.
